Changing Colors of Fall

Dear Reader,

The changing colors of fall and buzz of college football signal that the end of summer is near.  In reflection of the personal highlights of my summer, I am reminded of how fortunate we are to live in such an amazing place.

Summer camping with Tanya and our two children near gorgeous Suttle Lake, including a family day hike near beautiful Sahalie Falls, will be a cherished memory.  I’ve appreciated the scenery of the covered bridges and breathtaking McKenzie River on my frequent trips to visit our Vida office these past few months.

Eugene was home to the 2012 Track and Field Olympic Trials, bringing world-class Olympic athletes through Eugene.  The energy in Hayward Field was inspiring as they shared their experience with our community.

In July, I participated in the STP (Seattle to Portland) the largest group bike ride in North America.  This two day bike ride begins at the University of Washington, heading south and traveling on 504, with the halfway point in Centralia. The finish was filled with energy of accomplishment as bikers completed their 206 mile bike ride at Holladay Park in downtown Portland near the Lloyd center.

During my long training bike rides, I have been fortunate to see much of Lane County and surrounding areas in Oregon. I find myself feeling blessed to live and work in such a wonderful place. I encourage you to take advantage of the activities Lane County offers that allow you to embrace the beauty of our community.

In closing, I want to thank all the Windermere brokers, staff, managers, and family members who participated in Habitat for Humanity’s annual fundraiser, Willamette Valley Blues and Brews Festival (www.WVBBF.org). There was a thoughtful, giving spirit felt throughout the weekend of the festival.

The festival was a fundraiser for our local Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity along with a food drive for Food for Lane County.  Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, working to help end poverty housing in the greater Springfield and Eugene communities. Food for Lane County’s mission is to eliminate hunger by creating access to food. They accomplish this by soliciting, collecting, rescuing, growing, preparing and packaging food for distribution through a network of social service agencies and programs; and through public awareness, education and community advocacy.

We appreciate these organizations for all they do for the betterment of our community.

Sincerely,

Matt R. Powell
