Background

Matt R. Powell is the Owner and General Manager of Windermere Real Estate/Lane County. Windermere Real Estate/Lane County is the largest real estate company in Lane County.

His overall focus is on the growth and development of the Company. As a life-long member of Lane County and graduate from the University of Oregon, he continues to be very active in the community. Once a collegiate athlete at the UO, he has volunteered his time coaching wrestling throughout Oregon. With an extensive background in Real Estate, Matt’s experience includes: property management, real estate investing, and working as both a Buyer’s and Seller’s agent.

As a Sales Associate, Broker, and currently Principal Broker, Matt has achieved many accolades in his career.

In 2003 Matt was elected to the Board of the Eugene Association of Realtors, and as an Alternate for the Oregon Association of Realtors.

In 2005, Matt was nominated to act as the governing policy director for the Eugene Association of Realtors, and is a graduate of the Northwest Leadership Institute. In addition to being an active member of The Oregon Association of Realtors, Matt served on the Strategic Planning Committee.

As an active member of home ownership issues and a member of the Home Builders Association Matt was appointed, in 2009, to the position of Government Affairs Director as a member of the HBA Board of Directors.

In 2010 Matt joined the Oregon Real Estate Forms (OREF) Board of Managers. The Board oversees all operations of the company. OREF is the number one contract and form provider to real estate professionals throughout the state of Oregon.

Matt is a regular lecturer on real estate topics for Windermere Services of Oregon and The University of Oregon. Matt is an instructor for Lane Community College and he teaches the state of Oregon, Broker and Property Management, pre-licensing courses. In 2013 Matt will be teaching Introduction to Real Estate as a Career.

In June 2006, Matt was honored as a “30 under 30 REALTOR”. REALTOR Magazine profiled 30 real estate professionals under the age of 30. With more than 550 applicants Matt was selected and profiled in the National REALTOR Magazine.

In December 2008, Matt was selected into the inaugural class of 20 business leaders under the age of 40. The Register Guard published the list of ‘20 under 40’ in their December issue of The Blue Chip Publication, which is Lane County's premier business publication.

In addition to a proven leader in the real estate industry, locally and nationally, Matt serves on variety of the Boards throughout Lane County.

Matt currently serves on the Lane Metro Partnership Board, Home Builders Board of Directors, and is a member of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Eugene Comprehensive Lands Assessment. Matt is an emeritus board member for the Metropolitan Affordable Housing Corporation, and serves as a member and volunteers for United Way’s Healthy Economy, Healthy Families Steering Committee. He also spends time, in a volunteer/donor role, with Shelter Care.

Matt and Tanya, once known as `Team Powell` purchased Windermere Real Estate/Lane County in April 2003. As owners their overall focus is the company, agents and staff. They enjoy a hands on and long term committed role as local active owners.

Matt’s wife and business partner, Tanya Powell, is also a lifelong resident of Oregon. She is co-owner and Operations Manager of Windermere Real Estate/Lane County. Known as a pioneer in her field for her unique approach to marketing and real estate systems, she was elected the chair of the Education Committee for the Eugene Association of Realtors in 2003. She is a graduate in communications from Western Oregon University and former employee of Corporate Sales for the Downtown Athletic Club.

Tanya continues to be very active behind the scenes at Windermere Real Estate/Lane County and is also involved in many non-profit organizations, and is a past board member for Big Brother Big Sister.

Windermere Foundation

Helping Homeless, Low-income Families and Children. Every transaction makes a difference Windermere’s commitment to serving our communities goes beyond providing our buyers and sellers the best in real estate services.

Every time a Windermere broker sells a home, a portion of the commission goes to the Windermere Foundation, a non-profit organization. Contributions from Windermere brokers combined with contributions from Windermere employees and the public have allowed the Windermere Foundation to distribute in excess of a million dollars annually in recent years to non-profit agencies dedicated to helping homeless, low-income families and children.

Recent donations made by Windermere Real Estate/Lane County: Looking Glass Youth Services, Committed Partners For Youth, HIV Alliance, Little Eagles Literacy Program, Camp Fire, Springfield and Eugene Habitat For Humanity, Springfield CHORE Program, Relief Nursery, Food For Lane County, Committed Partners For Youth/Big Brother Big Sister, and Shelter Care.

In addition to the Windermere foundation, Windermere Real Estate/Lane County organizes and sponsors events throughout Lane County.

The Windermere Benefit Concert, featuring Satin Love Orchestra. Over its four year run, the concert has raised over $35,000 for the Springfield/Eugene Chapter of Habitat for Humanity!

Windermere’s Annual Community Service Day, held every June for the last ten years. This year, over 70 Windermere brokers, staff, managers, and family members volunteered to help with harvesting, weeding and other gardening chores, at the Food for Lane Country Grass Roots Garden.

Windermere and Whitaker Community Dinners have joined forces on a Coat and Blanket Drive for four years running. Last year, donations through Windermere generated the majority of needed items and it’s expected that this year’s drive will be another great year.

Windermere was a proud sponsor of the Eugene 08 festival surrounding the 2008 Olympic Track and Field Trails. In addition to the company’s financial contributions, agents and staff orchestrated the Windermere Art Challenge as a way to involve local youth in the festivities. Windermere received over 150 entries, and the grand-prize winners in each category received four sky suite tickets to the Trials.

Windermere Real Estate/Lane County was honored as the 2008 Emerald Award Winner for Community Caring. The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce honored and hosted the fifth annual wards ceremony. Nearly 400 local business and community leaders attended the event. Winners were selected from a record-breaking 90 nominations.

Matt R. Powell, owner of Windermere Real Estate/Lane County, has contributed to this culture by example: by allowing employees to volunteer on company time, by having staff and managers organize efforts to support community-based programs, and through his own commitments to numerous organizations.

History of Company

Windermere Real Estate/Lane County (the Company) has deep historical roots. Founded in 1974 by Jean Tate, after great success the company was sold in 1989 to a group of eight local real estate brokers. Jean Tate Real Estate became part of the Windermere franchise in 1998.

Since 1972, Windermere Real Estate has been serving the Northwest with more than 300 offices in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana. Nevada, California, Arizona, Hawaii and British Columbia. Residential real estate is the mainstay of Windermere’s business, with offices and associates specializing in single-family housing properties, new construction, condominiums and upscale properties. Windermere has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the communities it serves.
